Issues with Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus (GT-S7500)

I loved Samsung Mobile Products. My move from being a loyal Nokia customer to becoming an ardent Samsung Fan started when Samsung's feature phone Corby landed in my hand. Corby was an awesome phone and there was no looking away from Samsung after that. When their Samsung Galaxy Tab (P1000) was launched I did not have to think twice to buy it. And I am using the Tab as my personal computer ever since, to read, to write and to create multimedia content. At one point I even thought of spending 100 days without my laptop, with the Tab as my primary computer. And then I bought Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, the new kid in the block.

In two days, I fell out of love with Samsung. Next time I have to buy a Phone, I am not going for anything Samsung. Why?

Following are my reasons:

  1. Connectivity - We buy mobile phones so that we are always connected, on the go. Ace Plus does not think so. It just sits there, losing connectivity all the time. People are trying to reach you so badly and all they can hear is the voice of some woman or man telling them you are out of network coverage. They try and they try and when they finally reach you on some other phone nearby, you are like, surprised. You take Ace Plus and look at it. The signal bars are right there. Then how is your phone out of network coverage? But that is how it is with Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus. It will get out of network coverage, any time it pleases, even if it shows the signal bars full.
  2. Music Management - I heard Samsung is now trying to ape IPod, by creating a music player on Android. I think they will fail. Because the music/media management on Ace Plus sucks big time. You create a play list, putting together all your favourite songs. And the next time you want to listen to those songs, you go back and take a look at your play list. Bingo, your play list is empty! There are no songs in the Play List. Frustrated, you go to your recently played list. And that list is empty too. And then the frequently played and recently added lists are empty too. I know, that is the height of having a bad digital music player in your hand.
  3. Ringtone Management - The first thing I do when I get a phone is to set different ring tones for different people. This way I know which call to attend when. The ringtone management in Galaxy Ace is so bad that the phone never rings the way you have set it up. Ring tones keep changing as and when it pleases. Imagine the phone rings and you do not bother to pick it up only to realize later that the call was someone important. Galaxy Ace Plus has a mind of its own when it comes to ring tones and set them as it pleases. In other words, ring tone management sucks.
  4. Image Management - I do not know if it is Artificial Intelligence at its best, if you are using Samsung Galaxy Ace, the images toss and turn the way they like. Yes, I am talking about that feature that allows you to rotate images. You rotate an image in a particular way because that is how you want to see it. Come back to the image after some time and the image would have rotated on its own back to where it was before you turned it this way or that.
I do not trust Samsung Products any more!

  6. I have the exact same issues. However, I noticed that:

    1. The Connectivity Issue occurs to me when I was somewhere with poor/no network coverage for some time. It's like the Ace Plus throws a tantrum and then refuses to connect. I find that turning the Flight Mode on then off usually solves the problem. If that doesn't work, rebooting the phone clears the problem up.

2 & 3. The Music and Ringtone Management Issue occurs to me when I connect my Ace Plus to my computer via USB, or when I add new ringtones/music content to the phone.

I should also add that the alarm tone also changes on its own, which accounts for me sometimes waking up later than I wanted. I am a very heavy sleeper and only extreme alarm tones will wake me up (I use a downloaded klaxon alarm to wake me up.)

  9. My Galaxy Ace Plus is GT-S7500L (for latin america) it has the best alarm of any device i've ever used (pre-alarm rocks).. no match for desktop clocks either. I have had some of the mentioned issues like: ringtones changing, this i believed was because of an app conflicting. i have ZEDGE installed and i've used it tom anage ringtones and backgrounds. works great, then i assigned a person a particular ringtone using the android interface and then i had problems for the first time... to consider.

next, not beign able to rotate pictures. It took a while for me to discover theres an aditional menu while watching pictures. access it off screen, using the menu key (dumb, i know right, yet counter intuitive).. as for image thumbnails not maintaining their modified rotation, that could be a thing of erasing your cache.. some manager apps have the option to erase your thumbnails (9mb in my phone with some 200 pics).. mAYBE its that.. check on your apps.

The music managment is just as ugly as it is on itunes or any windows app.. and samsung's is good at it. at least it lets you configure what you want to see or not.. it has the folder view which is great. What i dislike is the preinstalled graphics that samsung assigns to album and song files.. they are corny and washy. great artwork upgrade from 90's phones but they scream "grandma-says-hi" postcard (plus it can get confusing to find your music visually)

this is a GOOD MID LEVEL phone, just dont load many apps!, keep it simple and it will outperform 800mhz phones. so, whats the hype? the phones ability to play video, the 5mb pixel camera WITH flash and the camera software, pictures modes and smile detection..

Now.. I've had the problem of call not coming thru.. that is just unnacceptable on a PHONE.. i bought this because of it's 1Gz proc over the other many 800 - 850Mghz alternatives.. precisely to be able to enjoy fast phone response (since that, i have eliminated most of the free app clutter i got from playstore market.. it's just the way it is, go do it, no one needs 8 games or 4 map apps on their phones).. I HOPE it is only due to gingerbread android 2.3.6 and I am waiting for the announcment of the free Jelly bean upgrade for this phone worldwide. Now, Samsung, dont forget that I will be buying a phone in a year from now. And i wont look into your best phones if the smaller phones dont get their fixes and promises met. Sorry my spelling, I'm sleepy, God speed

  12. this problem is only happening on ace plus only. I believe samsung might release a update to fix it. Also, other high end samsung smartphone does not face this kind of problem, just ace plus. Saying samsung sucks is not fair to samsung.
